Frequently Asked Questions
What is RunQuest?
RunQuest is an iOS running app with AI coaching. It combines daily quests, streaks, XP, and league progression with live voice coaching cues during your runs. The coach learns your preferences and running style over time.
Is RunQuest free?
RunQuest offers both free and paid tiers. Basic run tracking and progression features are available for free. AI coaching and advanced features require a Pro subscription, managed through the App Store.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. RunQuest works with just your iPhone. Heart-rate coaching is optional — if you have an Apple Watch or a compatible wearable that writes HR data to Apple Health, RunQuest can use it. Coaching works fully without heart rate data.
Do I need Strava?
No. Strava integration is optional. If you connect it, RunQuest exports completed runs to your Strava account (one-way). RunQuest does not import data from Strava and coaching works fully without it.
What does the coach know about me?
If coach memory is enabled, the backend stores personalization notes keyed to your runner ID: your tone/accent/style preferences, free-form "About You" and "Fitness Goals" notes, and facts the coach learns from your runs. You can view, edit, sync, and reset this memory in the Profile tab.
How does hands-free voice work?
You can set a wake phrase (e.g., "Coach") in Profile settings. During a run, say the wake phrase and RunQuest will use microphone and speech recognition to transcribe your request and respond via the coach. This requires granting microphone and speech recognition permissions.
Is RunQuest medical advice?
No. RunQuest coaching is motivational and informational, not medical advice. Heart-rate coaching is optional and conservative. Always consult a qualified physician before starting or changing a training program.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed through Apple. Go to your iPhone's Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions, find RunQuest, and tap Cancel. For refunds, contact Apple directly.
Data Deletion / Reset Coach Memory
What data does RunQuest store on the backend?
Our backend server currently stores, keyed by your runner ID:
- Runner memory: Coach personality preferences
(tone, humor, spirituality, emotional depth, accent, voice style),
"About You" and "Fitness Goals" notes, and facts the coach has
learned from your coaching sessions. Stored as a JSON file at
runner-memory/<runnerId>.jsonon the backend's persistent disk. - Strava tokens: If you connected Strava, your OAuth access and refresh tokens are stored in a token store file on the backend to enable run export.
- Usage logs: Daily log files containing coaching request counts, error counts, and token usage per runner ID. These do not contain coaching conversation content.
How to delete your data
From within the app:
- Reset Coach Memory: Go to Profile > Coach Memory > "Reset Coach Memory." You can choose a soft reset (keeps tone/accent sliders) or hard reset (wipes everything).
- Delete Account: Go to Profile > Account > "Delete Account." This deletes the coach memory and Strava tokens stored for your signed-in identity on the backend.
- Disconnect Strava: Go to Profile > Strava > "Disconnect Strava" to remove the stored OAuth tokens.
Via email:
If you cannot access the app or want to ensure complete deletion, email hello@runquest.io with the subject line "Data Deletion Request." Include any identifying information (the email associated with your Apple/Google sign-in, or your runner ID if you know it). We will delete your runner memory, Strava tokens, and associated usage logs within a reasonable timeframe.
